The way you understand pain is related to recovery

Some of you might think this is an interesting idea, but wonder how it applies to you.

Understanding pain is relevant to everyone that experiences pain.

Research shows that people that have a deep understanding of pain as a complex neurophysiological phenomena are more likely to become free of it. Well not completely free of it because we actually need it, but this is the subject of my next blog! This also necessitates consideration of how we learn in order to build such understanding.

By this stage in your life you have learnt lots of things about your body. Some of these ideas are flexible and you will quickly take on new seeds of information when they make sense and they may replace prior understanding. Other times, you've learnt some ideas so well, you will be convinced they are facts. These are sandstone beliefs and even when you like the sound of the new idea, you can't shake these old beliefs.

Eg. With respect to your body, have you been taught that it is vulnerable or damaged? Has persisting pain and what it's been attributed to, lead you to doubt your healing ability? But,would you like to understand otherwise? Would you like to believe my blogs that pain doesn't always mean damage? Would you like to be open to a view, that your body is capable of healing and returning to full strength and function? What would it take for you to believe this?

Changing our understanding is not always so easy, particularly when we have experiences that appear to affirm our concerns. Research shows that when we are supported with learning based models to explore our understanding, we become more open to new views. Therefore when information and exercise or treatment in isolation aren't giving results, we may need to take a step back to consider how we learn. And then you will see the results.

So, another new role - your yogaphysio community pain coach – more tools to work with you to keep you running well! So, if you're not getting results with recovery from pain or injury, come and have a consult. An individualised assessment will help you explore your understanding pain and how to change it to something more conducive to recovery. This is alongside a specific yoga-based program. This work takes times and I'm offering a new package of 3 sessions for the discounted price of $365 (usually $485 - saving $120).
